An Educator's Network

Welcome to the Seattle Public Schools social network for the support of powerful teaching and learning.

Welcome!

The Seattle Schools Ning is only a useful tool when teachers share information. Think of all the expertise and the resources that a master teacher will build over a career. How much of that knowledge must be learned individually from scratch by new teachers, or teachers with new assignments? Wouldn't it be better for everyone, students included, if the wisdom of our profession could be better collected and shared to improve Education in Seattle Public Schools? This network can help make that possible.

How do you keep slides managed over time?

Thumbnail
I love the new "groups" feature in Smart notebook, but even with the ability to group my slides by class, I still end up with unwieldy files, and some slides get lost in the shuffle by the end of a unit. Are other teachers struggling with this, or does anyone have a good tip for making slides easy to find in the moment?

On line tools class

I found the web page with a classroom tools game generator fascinating.  My students love anything that is  in game form...They learn by playing and it is fun.  I also found the Jeopardy power point website which will be a great game for students to brush up and review what we have been learning.  Great Class!

Xtra Math in Person

One of our 2nd grade parents, Marilyn Filley, is super eager to support our math instruction and struggling learners. The two of us have met a couple times and discussed how she could help. The

following is a description of what we’ve come up with.

What I need from you is to consider this and tell me WHEN you would be willing to have Marilyn come to your class. I have committed to responding to…

Let's try to start answering this guiding question!!!

It's been awhile since my last post. In order to get this guiding question going, I will put together a survey that will help teachers identify points in their instructional practice that could be improved in order to improve number sense amongst all students, but especially struggling students.

Tomorrow I will present the questions at the staff meeting and people can either do a paper-and-pencil version or an online version. This Ning site? Survey Monkey?
